EYES WIDE OPEN

A different look on the music of Dimitrij Šostakovič at 50 years from his death (1975-2025)

A very personal tribute to the great russian composer, moving from his approach towards form and tradition with Sonata n. 2 op. 61, featuring for the first time his famous leitmotiv DSCH (Dimitrij SCHostakovitch), to a selection of Preludes and Transcriptions. In this second part we explore the composer’s realtionship with politics (his “crass portrayal of Stalin” in the second movement of Symphony n. 10) and cinema, after his Waltz. n. 2 from the Suite for Variety Orchestra is forever connected to the famous Stanley Kubrick movie “Eyes Wide Shut”

WILLIAM SYDNEY GREIG PROJECT

An attempt to bring back to life the works of William Sydney Greig (1910-1983), irish musician, who was organist and master of the choristers at St. Patrick’s Cathedral, Dublin from 1960 to 1977, and also a distant relative of mine. Recorded pieces, arrangements and transcriptions include two unpublished songs (The Trumpet & The White Swan), my Variations on Anthem “Let all the world in every corner sing” and Three Organ Pieces I have arranged for piano.
